Dear all,

Paul Stevens reminded us on Sunday that we are inundated with news these days, a lot of it bad. But that's not the message of Isaiah 61 - Isaiah was chosen to preach God's good news. God's desire is that we flourish. It's good news for those suffering from hunger - and a practical way that people are being helped these days is through micro economic development. It is good news for those suffering from relationship breakdowns - time does not heal everything, but God wants to heal us, such that we flourish emotionally and bring that flourishing to others.

It's through Jesus that this good news predicted in Isaiah comes to pass, as highlighted in Luke 4:21. Through Jesus, our sin is exchanged for his righteousness -Jesus didn't come to exhibit the vengeance of God but to show his love. Jesus also ushered in the kingdom of God. At the core of the kingdom are those who have come to know Christ personally and who are now a royal priesthood. But the kingdom extends beyond Christians: we priests extend the kingdom through our work whether it be as paid workers or volunteers. We are priests to the world in our places of work and through it we redeem the city in which God places us.

I've enjoyed bringing these weekly email messages to the church. But just to make sure that this is an effective medium of communication, perhaps you would drop me a note personally to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
