Dear all

There were many things that impressed me about our retreat at Cedar Springs

  • the quality of fellowship: this is a church which actually enjoys getting together. The interactions over meals, the fun times, the (challenging!) walks all contributed to great fellowship. My visiting friends, Phyllis and Cynthia, both commented on the warmth exhibited. I'm sure that other visitors felt the same

  • the talks: I appreciated Steve Ney's insights into the way that beauty can be seen or demonstrated in creation, in the quality of our work as sub-creators, in the cross, in our improved appreciation of fine things and in acts of kindness and generosity. I particularly liked our discussion around the woman who poured perfume on Jesus
  • the more contemplative moments: our morning devotions, the times of studying God's word via Steve's insightful study questions. The times of personal reflection
  • our workshop: it was very rewarding to see how people entered into the spirit of the exercise and provided invaluable opinions and insights for the Board's planning
  • Cedar Springs itself: it looks like a great resource for pastors. I'm looking forward to their 2019 retreat schedule

And just before the weekend, Pastor John Tsang called me from Smithers asking where he might get the best breakfast. (Gail and I ministered at the Baptist church in Smithers for four years). The world is getting smaller!
