My Heart, Whose Home Is It? – Matt 6:19-34 PDF Print E-mail

The two portions of the Sermon on the Mount that we reflected on this past Sunday were:

Treasures in Heaven, 6:19-24

Do Not Worry/Do Not be Anxious, 6:25-34

James led us through the passage with these thoughts:

1. Symbiotic relationship between my choice of investment and relationship with God. Scripture says that where our treasure is, there your heart will be also (6:21).

2. Think about the impact of my treasures on my heart, my outlook, my allegiance, and my will.

3. Understand the Reality. These are the things that people who don’t trust in God seek but we are not to seek after these things. We don’t need to be anxious, worrying does not change anything.

4. Choice for us to make. God does His part and we do our part in seeking first his kingdom and righteousness. Be careful of our too ‘casual’ attitude toward God.

1. Take an inventory of your life. What is the one most important thing on your mind when you first wake up?

2. What are some of my worries? Health, family, career, children, finance? In what ways will it affect me tomorrow if I know that ‘My Heavenly Father knows what I need’?

3. Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness. What are some things I need to change in my life to follow His command? Who are some believers that can pray for me, support me and keep me accountable to observe this command?

Peace and grace, John
