What a meaningful Father’s Day celebration! It was beautiful to see Melanie’s testimony and sharing, to hear of her father’s heart to serve the members of this orchestra, and then to see the passion of Professor Yin in his conducting! Many members of the orchestra expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to be a part of our worship yesterday and I want to pass that on to you. It was a real blessing for us at LPC, a blessing to the members of the orchestra, and a meaningful moment for Melanie, Professor Yin and the family.

Then we had the opportunity to dedicate Malcolm to the Lord on Brandon’s first Father’s day, what a delight!

For our sermon time, Jens Zimmermann offered us a way to think about the Sermon on the Mount.

First, Jesus is the Son of God, the firstborn of all creation, the cosmic Christ (Col 1:15). The Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is in us. For those who have made a profession of faith to follow Christ, our identity rests on the fact that we are sons and daughters of God.

Secondly, the teaching from the Sermon on the Mount helps us to be like our Father, who is revealed in the person of Jesus Christ. We were created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness (Eph 4:24) and to be conformed to the image of his Son (Rom 8:29).

From Matt 6:1-4, we are instructed to be single-minded when we give to the needy. We are not to be hypocrites (actors wearing a mask). Our motivation comes from pleasing the heavenly Father (6:4) and not on what others think or see. When we obey and follow the teachings of the Sermon on the Mount, we receive total freedom and the hope of being with the Father, Son, and Spirit one day.

Peace and grace, John
