Most of us will have 4 groups of friends: acquaintances, casual friends, close friends, and intimate you trust completely. Bill shared a number of encouraging stories of friendships through friends. An intimate friend is someone with whom “you can share your bank account with”; someone whom his life, those who have inspired him and encouraged him as a person and in his relationship with God. As well, friendships can be an avenue through which we can share the love of God.

A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for a time of adversity. (Prov 17:17)

He who walks with the wise grows wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm. (Prov 13:20)

He who covers over an offence, promotes love; But he who repeats a matter separates best friends. (Prov 17:9)

The purposes of a man’s heart is deep waters, But a man of understanding will draw it out. (Prov 20:5)

Wounds from a friend can be trusted, But an enemy multiplies kisses. (Prov 27:6)

He who conceals his sins does not prosper, But the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. (Prov 28:13)

In striving to become an intimate friend to another; be someone whom you can trust, love that person beyond personal interest, and be courageous enough to carry a heavy message when it is needed.

Our Lord Jesus, in the ultimate expression of his love for us, considered us to be his friends: I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you (John 15:15). Jesus also said, Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friend (John 15:13). This is what our Lord did for us, may we strive to be friends toward one another.

Peace and grace, John
